Note: the portfolio items from my internship at MIT Lincoln Laboratory are password protected due to security clearance restrictions. There is actually no sensitive information here, but I just want to avoid any conflict. If you are a potential employer, just send me an email and I'll gladly provide a login and password.
Project Management and Information Architecture
I was tasked to manage the design and development of the WDC team's first intranet site. This encompassed the entire project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, information architecture, interface design, task delegation, template development, content conversion and entry and quality control. The links below include the list of assigned tasks, requirements for an update request web form, and an information architecture diagram of the site created with MS Visio. I also used MS Project to determine a timeline for the project.
Web Design and Communications (WDC) New Site
At first, I was requested to choose color schemes for the site that were "subtle" and "not too bright". I came up with a number of designs, and I was mainly trying to avoid creating multiple variations using blue, especially blue and orange, since so many professional web sites these days use those colors. When presented with an array of options, the client decided everything was too light, chose a color scheme which happened to include blue, and wanted it brighter/darker. So I complied, and thus produced the final layout shown in the last link below. In the page with the color choices, the first image is the chosen color scheme.
Site Redesigns
The standard template used for all redesigns and new sites is shown below, as well as before and after images of each of the site redesigns I did. LFO was my first redesign. At first I tried to preserve the original layout within the standard template, since I was warned that the users of that particular site dislike dramatic changes. Although no structural deviations from the template were made, this design was deemed too "nonstandard". That explains why there are two "after" images for LFO, because I like them both.
Logos and Graphics
Although my main job at MIT LL was not graphic design, I was given the opportunity to design a few logos and banners for various purposes. The following links are listed in chronological order from left to right. In the first two links, the topmost image is the one that was chosen by the client. The third link shows a banner which served as a placeholder on the new WDC site until we found a branding solution for ICS, of which WDC was a part. The next-to-last link shows the ideas I came up with for ICS logos. The ones in color were submitted for review by ICS management. The last link shows the banner background used when presenting the chosen logos to ICS management.
