RSO Web Site Design

The following images display screenshots of the first RSO web site, which I designed. I desiged the interface entirely with HTML using notepad (before I learned CSS), and then began to input the content. Unfortunately, the chaos of RSO made it impossible for me to finish before my co-op ended. I learned a lot about how web design requires careful attention to screen resolution, browser compatibility and other system attributes. The purpose of this web site was to answer frequently asked questions and to display announcements and other important information for proctors, RAs, and other RSO employees.

Scheduler's Manual

I wrote this manual from scratch for future schedulers. Previous scheduling manuals had been written or updated by past schedulers, but the job itself had changed so much that a new manual was needed. The language and style of this manual was meant to sound like an experienced scheduler talking to a new scheduler, rather than like a boring textbook. To this end, much of it will seem casual. I always feel that screen shots help when someone is trying to learn something new on a computer, so I included those, although it wasn't entirely necessary. The following links contain the entire manual in two alternative file formats.

RA Data Entry Interface

With 18 different RDs submitting thier RAs' schedules in completely different formats, the amount of time it took to enter the data was excessive. As soon as I was put through this process, I decided that RDs needed a simple, standardized format to enter the data, and a means to translate that data into the best format for the schduler. I then implemented an automated solution using Excel. The RDs are now able to use a calendar format, while the scheduler can unhide pages containing the data in the optimal format for schedule entry. The scheduler's pages aren't shown in the screenshots becuase they are nothing more than long columns of numbers.
